The Animal Health Trust (AHT) is a large UK-based veterinary charity dedicated to promoting animal welfare through improved understanding of diseases in cats, dogs and horses. Situated in a beautiful location just 4 miles from Newmarket, the AHT has a multi-disciplinary small animal referral clinic, an equine referral clinic, and a number of research groups (including virology, epidemiology, pathology, genetics, and molecular oncology).
The small animal clinic is dedicated to providing the highest standards of patient care, and has an active programme of clinical research and post-graduate training (internships and residencies). We currently have specialist teams in anaesthesia, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology/neurosurgery, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery.
We are currently seeking a Senior Clinical Ophthalmologist to join our team. The successful candidate is expected to hold a diploma of the ACVO, or ECVO, or should be eligible to take part in the diploma/fellowship examination of these colleges.
Available facilities include three operating microscopes, two phacoemulsification and vitrectomy units, external and endoscopic diode laser, cryotherapy, strontium plesiotherapy, and an on-site 1.5T MRI scanner. This has recently been expanded by a 16-slice CT scanner and external beam radiation (linear accelerator) and high dose iridium radiation brachytherapy unit. The ophthalmology unit also regularly works with exotic animals and is actively involved in international charity work.
The successful candidate will help to cover the 24/7 clinical service, teach residents/interns and take part in the continuing education programme, as well as clinical research.
The term of the position is initially for one year with potential extension to a permanent post, and the starting salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications.
