Canine DNA Profiling - ISAG2006
A DNA profile, generated with a set of DNA markers, is unique to an individual, except for identical twins.
By profiling their stock, breeders will be able to ensure that there can be no concerns about the authenticity of their lines. Profiling will provide a reference if there is a need to identify an individual dog at any stage in the dogs life (DNA profiles do not vary with age), for example if the dog is lost or stolen. DNA profiles can also be used to confirm the parentage of dogs.
We use a DNA Profile developed through the International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG2006) and we participate in the international comparison test organised by this society every two years which guarantees agreement in DNA Profiling between all participating laboratories. The ISAG2006 standard is currently used by many, but not all, Kennel Clubs so please check with us if you are not sure which form of DNA Profile you need.
