Celebrating Horse Health Week at the AHT - 21 - 28 september
We’re proud to be supporting the first national Horse Health Week campaign, alongside BEVA, as part of the larger national campaign, Keeping Britain’s Horses Healthy. Initiated by MSD Animal Health, the dedicated week aims to get horse owners thinking more about preventative healthcare and protecting their own horses from disease, alongside the one million stabled horses in the UK at risk of infectious disease outbreaks.
Here at the Animal Health Trust it's simply amazing how much we do for the health of horses that you, as a horse owner or animal lover, might not be aware of. Treating horses in our expert clinics for lameness and poor performance issues, as well as serious eye problems, is only the start of our work to help horses.
All of our equine vets conduct research to better diagnose and treat the problems seen in the clinics and, thanks to our varied scientific teams, horses all over the world are benefiting from improved vaccines and expert surveillance and control of disease outbreaks such as equine flu, herpesvirus and Strangles.
Research is also conducted at the AHT to help tackle other diseases such as equine grass sickness and laminitis, to name just a few projects. Plus, in recent years, our scientists have been exploring the potential of stem cells to better treat tendon injuries and fractures, as well as starting to look at the genetics of horses predisposed to these injuries.
There's so much going on behind the scenes here that it's too much to try and tell you everything in one go. For more information on our work please go to www.aht.org.uk/horses
We hope Horse Health Week will inspire you to further support the AHT and all the work we do for horses and ponies.
