Canine DNA Profiling
A DNA profile, generated with a set of DNA markers, is unique to an individual, excepting the case of identical twins. By profiling their stock, breeders will be able to ensure that there can be no concerns about the authenticity of their lines. Profiling will provide a reference if there is a need to identify an individual dog at any stage in the dogs life (DNA profiles do not vary with age), for example if the dog is lost or stolen. Profiles can be used to check parentage since the profile of offspring must correspond to the profiles of the parents.
This test requires 2mls EDTA blood / Mouth Swabs. Samples for testing should be sent, together with a completed DNA Testing form and payment of £31 inc VAT (cheque or credit card) for each blood sample or pair of swabs, to Genetic Services, Animal Health Trust, Lanwades Park, Kentford, Newmarket, Suffolk CB8 7UU.
