Interim Report – September 2011 #1 (02.09.11)

Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis (EEE):
Four additional cases of EEE had been confirmed since the previous update of August 25th.  These occurred in New York (2) and Wisconsin (2).  The national total currently stands at 14.  Cases have been diagnosed in Florida (3), Louisiana (1), New York (4), North Carolina (1) and Wisconsin (5).

West Nile Encephalitis (WNE):
There has been an increase of 6 in the number of cases of WNE recorded in the year to date, bringing the national total to 18.  A breakdown of cases by state is as follows:  Arizona (2), California (2), Florida (1), George (1), Iowa (1), Minnesota (1), Nevada (1), New York (1), North Dakota (4), Pennsylvania (2), and Texas (2).  Since last reported August 25th, new cases of the disease have occurred in Arizona (2), Florida (1), Minnesota (1), North Dakota (1) and Pennsylvania (1).
