Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis (EEE):
Since September 2nd, there has been a moderate surge in the number of equine cases of EEE confirmed in the USA. The national total currently stands at 22; this represents an increase of 10 over the past week. The majority of cases have been in New York State (11), followed by Wisconsin (5), Florida (3), Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina with one apiece.
West Nile Encephalitis (WNE):
The national total of cases of WNE in equids currently stands at 21, an increase of 6 over the previous number reported in early September. Cases have been reported for the first time in Kentucky (1) and Virginia (1). Other state totals are Arizona (2), California (2), Florida (1), Georgia (1), Iowa, (1), Minnesota (1), Nevada (1), New York (2), North Dakota (4), Pennsylvania (2) and Texas (2).
