UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Equine Herpesvirus -1 (EHV-1) Neurological Disease
Further to the report of 17th January 2012, four further additional cases of  infection with a neuropathogenic strain of EHV-1 have been confirmed on the premises in Orange County, California bringing the total number of diagnosed cases of the infection on this premises to nine of which the index case would appear to have been the only animal presenting with neurological signs. The confirmed case that had presented with fever and dependent limb edema became recumbent on January 18th 2012 and was euthanased.  Exposed horses on the premises continue to be monitored daily and increased biosecurity measures have been implemented.  As yet, the source of virus for the present outbreak has not been determined.

CANADA
Equine Herpesvirus -1 (EHV-1)  Neurological Disease
On 19th January 2012 an outbreak of EHV-1 neurological disease in Canada was reported by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The affected horse was from Wellington, Ontario and showed severe neurological signs. The horse tested positive for EHV-1 in early January and was later euthanased. Biosecurity measures have been implemented to prevent disease transmission.
