Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) causing paralytic disease
As of 15th April 2011 the Réseau d’Epidémio-Surveillance en Pathologie Equine (RESPE) has reported an outbreak of EHV-1 causing neurological disease in Calvados, France. The affected horse, a 13 year-old mare showed nasal discharge, ataxia and paresis and was diagnosed by PCR on a nasopharyngeal swab. Typing of the EHV-1 isolate is ongoing and restrictions are in place.

Equine Influenza Virus (EIV)
Following the EIV outbreak previously reported on 12th April 2011, in Orne, France, as of 15th April 2011 RESPE has reported another two cases of Equine Influenza (EI) on the same premises. There are 100 horses in total on the premises and up to date 40 have been reported as affected. The organs of two 3 day old foals have been confirmed as EIV positive by PCR. Typing of the EIV isolate is ongoing.
