Equine Herpesvirus -1 (EHV-1) Neurological Disease
Five additional cases of acute EHV-1 infection have been confirmed on the previously reported premises in Orange County, California, bringing the total number of diagnosed cases of infection on the premises to 16, only one of which (the index case) displayed neurologic signs and is recovering from the disease.  Under the circumstances, the California Department of Food and Agriculture is maintaining a strict quarantine on the premises and not allowing any horses onto or off the property.

An additional case of EHM has very recently been diagnosed on another premises located in Riverside, California, with no link to the initial outbreak.  The affected horse displayed characteristic signs of EHM and has had to be euthanized.  That premises is also under quarantine restrictions.
