CROATIA

Equine Infectious Anaemia (EIA)

On 22nd June 2011 the Réseau d’Epidémio-Surveillance en Pathologie Equine (RESPE) reported an EIA outbreak in Comitat de Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Croatia. A single horse has been affected with three in contact horse present on the premises. Diagnosis was confirmed by serology. It is not clear whether the affected horse has been euthanased but epidemiological investigations are ongoing and restrictions are in place.
 

 GERMANY

Equine Infectious Anaemia (EIA)

On 22nd June 2011 RESPE reported an EIA outbreak in Bavière, Germany. A single horse was affected with one in contact horse present on the premises. Diagnosis was confirmed by serology. The infected horse has been euthanased, epidemiological investigations are ongoing and restrictions are in place.

 

ITALY

Equine Infectious Anaemia (EIA)

On 22nd June 2011 RESPE reported several EIA outbreaks in Italy which were confirmed by serology between 23rd May 2011 and 13th June 2011. Five outbreaks have been reported in the province of Abruzzes, with six, three, and single horses affected on each premises, which included three, zero, thirty-four, two and one in contact horses, respectively. Other outbreaks have been reported in the provinces of Latium, and Toscane, with single horses affected on each premises, which included sixty, and nineteen horses in contact, respectively. It is not clear whether the affected horses have been euthanased but epidemiological investigations are ongoing and restrictions are in place.

 

ROMANIA

Equine Infectious Anaemia (EIA)

On 22nd June 2011 RESPE reported two outbreaks of EIA in the district Brasov, Romania, which were confirmed by serology on 2nd June 2011. Infection by hematophagous insects has been suggested in one affected horse. It is not clear whether the affected horses have been euthanased but epidemiological investigations are ongoing and restrictions are in place.
On 22nd June 2011 RESPE reported also several EIA positive horses in Romania which were confirmed by serology, performed in the framework of the national programme for surveillance. Eight positive EIA horses have been reported in the district of Brasov, with single horses affected on each premises, which included 1 in contact horse on two premises and no in contact horses on six premises. One positive EIA horse has been reported in the district d’Alba with no in contact horses on the premises. None of these horses showed any signs of disease but it is not clear whether the affected horses have been euthanased. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing and restrictions are in place.
