FRANCE
Equine Herpes Virus -1 (EHV-1) Abortion 
On 29th February 2012 an outbreak of EHV-1 abortion was reported at a stud in Manche, France byRéseau d’Epidémio-Surveillance en Pathologie Equine (RESPE). The index case was an unvaccinated 12 year old French Trotter broodmare and a diagnosis was made by positive PCR on fetal tissues. A total of three horses out of 19 were affected in the outbreak.
                                                              
Equine Herpes Virus-1 (EHV-1) Respiratory Disease
On 29th February 2012 an outbreak of Equine Herpes Virus-1 was reported at a riding centre in Val de Marne, France by RESPE. The affected horse was an 8 year old unvaccinated French Saddlebred mare that showed clinical signs of nasal discharge and pyrexia. A positive diagnosis was made by PCR of a nasal swab.
