Equine Herpes Virus-1 (EHV-1) Respiratory Infection

On 4 December 2018, RESPE reported a case of EHV-1 respiratory infection in Vendée. The affected horse presented with coughing, nasal discharge and pyrexia. The positive diagnosis was made by PCR on a nasal swab by LABEO-Frank Duncombe. There is one other horse reported to be affected at the premises.

Equine Herpes Virus-4 (EHV-4) Respiratory Infection

On 4 December 2018, RESPE reported a case of EHV-4 respiratory infection on a premises in Orne. The positive diagnosis was made by PCR on a nasopharyngeal swab by LABEO-Frank Duncombe.

Equine Infectious Anaemia (EIA)

On 4 December 2018, RESPE reported a case of EIA in Vaucluse. The affected horse was a six-year-old with no clinical signs of infection. The positive diagnosis was made by serology on a blood sample by Dozulé laboratory for equine diseases. There is another horse on the premises displaying clinical signs of EIA and there is an epidemiological link with a previous outbreak (specifics of this were not reported).

Strangles

On 4 December 2018, RESPE reported two separate cases strangles. The first was on a premises in Orne, with the positive diagnosis confirmed by culture on a guttural pouch sample by LABEO-Frank Duncombe. The second case was on a riding school premises in Isère. The affected horse presented with lymphadenopathy, nasal discharge and pyrexia. The positive diagnosis was confirmed by PCR on a nasal swab and the sample was also positive for EHV-4. There are a total of 10 horses with clinical signs of strangles amongst a group of 50.

On 6 December, RESPE reported a case of strangles in Val-De-Marne. The positive diagnosis was confirmed by PCR on a guttural pouch sample by LABEO-Frank Duncombe.

Equine Infectious Anaemia (EIA)

On 4 December 2018, the Colorado Department of Agriculture confirmed a case of EIA in a horse that was tested for routine movement. The horse is quarantined in Fremont County. This is the fourth case of EIA in Colorado this year and is unrelated to the previous three cases.
