Interim ICC Report – December 18 #04 (11.12.18)
On 7 December 2018, the University of Liege reported that a total of 283 clinical cases compatible with the diagnosis of atypical myopathy have been communicated to Liege University and to the RESPE. These cases were recorded in Austria (five cases), Belgium (124 cases), Denmark (two cases), France (87 cases), Great-Britain (12 cases), The Netherlands (eight cases), in the Czech Republic (15 case), In Switzerland (seven cases) and Germany (22 cases).
Equine Herpes Virus-4 (EHV-4) Respiratory Infection
On 7 December 2018, RESPE reported an outbreak of EHV-4 respiratory infection on a premises in Orne. Positive diagnoses were confirmed by PCR on as nasopharyngeal swab by LABEO-Frank Duncombe.
On 7 December 2018, RESPE reported two separate outbreaks of Strangles. The first outbreak was on a premises in Mayenne. The affected horse was a six-year-old French Trotter mare that presented with coughing, lymphadenopathy, nasal discharge and pyrexia. The positive diagnosis was confirmed by PCR on a nasopharyngeal swab by LABEO-Frank Duncombe. This outbreak is related to ICC report Nov #11. There are a total of two horses affected, amongst a group of 80. The second outbreak is on a premises in Orne. The affected animal is a one-year-old French Trotter male that presented with lymphadenopathy, nasal discharge and pyrexia. The positive diagnosis was confirmed by PCR on a nasopharyngeal swab. There are a total of four affected, amongst a group of 50.
