Equine Influenza (EI)

On 11 February 2019, AHT confirmed a case of EI on a premises in Central Scotland. The affected horse was a newly acquired non-Thoroughbred that presented with mucopurulent nasal discharge. The premises it was acquired from reportedly regularly imports horses from Ireland. Vaccination status is unknown but clinical signs have been mild and transient. Positive diagnosis was confirmed by PCR on a nasopharyngeal swab. There are a total of around eight other horses on the premises.

 

On 11 February 2019, AHT confirmed a case of EI on a premises in Derbyshire. The affected horse was a non-Thoroughbred, recently imported from Ireland. It had an unknown vaccination history and presented with coughing, nasal discharge and pyrexia. Positive diagnosis was confirmed by PCR on a nasopharyngeal swab. There are around ten unvaccinated in contacts on the premises and similar clinical signs have been reported in two of these.

 

On 12 February 2019, AHT confirmed a case of EI on a premises in Kent. The affected horse was a unvaccinated non-Thoroughbred that presented with coughing and nasal discharge. Positive diagnosis was made by PCR on a nasopharyngeal swab. The yard had received a new arrival in the preceding two weeks from Ireland. There are a total of around 20 in contacts with varying vaccination status, of which 5 are also reportedly showing similar clinical signs.
