Interim ICC report Feb 19 #10 (15.02.19) Report from France on Equine Influenza and Germany on EHV-1 Abortion
Equine Influenza (EI)
On 13 February 2019, RESPE reported an outbreak of EI at a training centre in Val-de-Marne. The affected horses were vaccinated French Trotters that presented with pyrexia. Positive diagnoses were made by PCR on nasopharyngeal swabs by LABEO Frank Duncombe.
Equine Herpes Virus-1 (EHV-1) Abortion
On 15 February 2019 EHV-1 abortion was confirmed by Labor Böse on a premises in North Rhine-Westphalia. The affected mare is a nine-year-old Thoroughbred with unknown vaccination status. Positive diagnosis was confirmed by PCR on fetal lung puncture aspirate and swabs of uterine discharges and endometrium. There are a total of 40 horses at the premises; two Thoroughbred brood mares and the rest are Warmbloods, mainly of younger ages. The second Thoroughbred broodmare on that premises was confirmed to be in foal on 12 September 2018, but has aborted thereafter unnoticed. The stud manager has been directed to implement quarantine measures and movement restrictions according to the HBLB Codes of Practice.
