Equine Herpes Virus-4 (EHV-4) Respiratory Infection
On 15 January 2019, RESPE reported a case of EHV-4 respiratory infection on a premises in Val-de-Marne. The affected horse was a five-year-old French Trotter. The positive diagnosis was confirmed by PCR on a nasopharyngeal swab. There are a total of 20 horses at the premises.
On 15 January 2019, RESPE reported a case of strangles on a training centre in Val-de-Marne. The positive diagnosis was confirmed by PCR on nasopharyngeal swab by LABEO Frank Duncombe.
Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA)
The Georgia department of Agriculture Animal Industry Division has confirmed three cases of EIA in Quarter horses at a facility in Paulding County. All infected horses have been euthanased. Quarantine restrictions have been imposed on the index premises and the remaining horses will be retested after 60 days. The latest cases bring the total number of cases of the disease in the state in 2019 to eight.
