Therapeutic Radiographer / Medical Physics Technician (Maternity Cover)

Salary: £32,000.00 - £35,000.00 p.a. (dependent upon experience)

The Animal Health Trust is a large, UK-based veterinary institute dedicated to promoting animal welfare through improved understanding of diseases in dogs, cats and horses. We have both a multidisciplinary small animal and an equine referral clinic along with number of research groups including virology, epidemiology, pathology, genetics and molecular oncology.

Our small animal referral centre is committed to provide the highest standards of patient care as expected in a multidisciplinary hospital. We currently have specialists in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesia and offer an active programme of internships and residencies in multiple disciplines. We provide on-site access to the most advanced diagnostic modalities including 1.5T MRI, 16 Slice CT, fluoroscopy, scintigraphy, videoendoscopy, and minimally-invasive surgical equipment. The pathology and clinical pathology laboratories at the AHT complement the clinical services.

The Oncology team consists of two board-certified oncologists, three nurses and two therapeutic radiographers. We have a fully functional radiotherapy suite comprising a Clinac 23EX linear accelerator (120MLC and Portal vision) and GammaMed HDR brachytherapy and Strontium therapy. The linac is used in small animals, while the HRD in horses and in a close future for small animals.

The successful candidate will work as part of a well integrated multi-disciplinary clinic, and be keen to help us further develop our new facility in a rewarding and friendly environment. The candidate will be expected to:

  • be either registered as a therapeutic radiographer or medical physics technician with the Health Professions Council
  • operate the linear accelerator, undertake some QA, and organize the calibration and service schedules for the equipment
  • administer the treatment planning database and help with treatment planning
  • act as Radiation Protection Supervisor for radiotherapy
