Lorraine Fleming

Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in Ophthalmology, Lorraine’s main research interests are the cornea and ocular surface health.

As head of department she is also involved in supervising and contributing to many other research projects, including cataract surgery outcomes, factors contributing to glaucoma development and changing bacterial profiles associated with corneal ulcers in the UK.



Lorraine qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1990, completing a further year as an Intern. After a year at Bristol Vet School as a Fellow in Feline medicine, she went into general practice. Ophthalmology was always her first love and she started at the AHT in 1993. Gaining her RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 1994, she was involved in clinical work and research projects, completing a Fellowship at the Institute of Ophthalmology in London. In 2004 motherhood meant working part-time and she left the AHT for Grove Referrals in Fakenham.

Throughout her career, Lorraine has been involved in teaching vets and owners in the UK and abroad. In 2015 she returned to the AHT part-time and in 2017 came back full time, as the Head of Ophthalmology. As well as her two children, Lorraine has five dogs, four cats, four ponies and numerous chickens as home to take care of. Not much time for relaxation!
